All international students must hold a valid Student Pass and Visa to study in Malaysia, as mandated by the Government of Malaysia. These are issued and regulated by the Immigration Department of Malaysia, while Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) facilitates and manages the application process on your behalf.
You are exempted from applying for a Student Pass and Visa if you hold any of the following:
Diplomatic Pass
Permanent Resident (PR) status with a Malaysian identity card
Residence Pass – Talent (RP-T)
Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Pass
Dependent Pass (with a Permission to Study stamp or letter from Immigration)
Even if you are exempted, you must still register and coordinate with UMK’s International Office.
Important: If there are any policy changes by the Immigration Department or the Ministry of Education (MOE), students are required to comply with the latest conditions and regulations.
Since February 2013, the Ministry of Education Malaysia has appointed Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) as the official one-stop centre for processing all international student passes.
When you arrive in Malaysia (regardless of the entry point), you must present your Visa Approval Letter (VAL) at the immigration checkpoint. You will then receive a Special Pass stamped in your passport, which allows you to remain in Malaysia legally while your student pass is being processed.
Typically ranges between 14 to 30 days, depending on the discretion of the Immigration Department.
Note: You are NOT to arrange any travel arrangement during the endorsement process till you receive back your passport.
